Should a Christian celebrate Halloween?

Is there anything evil about a Christian dressing up as a princess or cowboy and going around the block asking for candy? No, there is not. Are there things about Halloween that are anti-Christian and should be avoided? Absolutely!

If parents are going to allow their children to participate in Halloween, they should make sure to keep them from getting involved in the darker aspects of the day. If Christians are going to take part in Halloween, their attitude, dress, and most importantly, their behavior should still reflect a redeemed life (Philippians 1:27).

There are many churches that hold "harvest festivals" and incorporate costumes, but in a godly environment. There are many Christians who hand out tracts that share the Gospel along with the Halloween candy. The decision is ultimately ours to make.

But as with all things, we are to incorporate the principles of Romans 14. We can’t allow our own convictions about a holiday to cause division in the body of Christ, nor can we use our freedom to cause others to stumble in their faith. We are to do all things as to the Lord.

A boy went to a Halloween party with a sheet on his head.
"Are you a ghost ?" asked his friends
"No, I'm an unmade bed !"

You Know You Are Too Old To Go Trick or Treating When:

You get winded knocking on the doors.

You have to have another kid chew the candy for you.

You ask for high fiber candy only.

When someone drops a candy bar in your bag, you lose your balance and fall over.

People say, "Great Boris Karloff mask" and you are not wearing a mask.

When the door opens you yell, 'Trick or . . ." and can't remember the rest.

Book Of The Month

The Bible
 by The Holy Spirit

The Bible Is The Word Of God

The Bible is a Divine Revelation. In the Bible we find out what God wants mankind to know about Himself and His plan.

The Bible is the only written revelation of God to man.

No one has ever successfully refuted the Bible. Many mock the Bible but avoid challenging it point by point. No one who has done in-depth research, honestly examining the evidence for the Bible's inspiration and truthfulness, has been able to disprove the Bible.

History records many who set out to disprove the Bible, who instead became believers.

One Mind Behind The Bible

Our Bible is composed of 66 books, by about 40 different writers of various backgrounds, living during a period of about 1,600 years -- yet they present one message. Such a miracle can only be explained by there being one divine Author, who was in control of all these human writers.

The Bible was written in three different languages: Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.

Books written by men have no unity of thought on even one subject. Some of them invariably disagree with others. But there is perfect unity between the books of the Bible -- which speak of hundreds of subjects in many fields. There is no contradiction among them.

Who but God could produce such a book?

Witness Of Fulfilled Prophecies

Hundreds of prophecies of future events were recorded in the Bible -- some of them centuries before fulfillment -- and not one detail of any of them has ever failed!

No other "religious book" foretells the future.

Could man -- especially dozens of men, writing in different countries and different times -- foretell the future so accurately? Never! Only God could do such a tremendous thing.

No one but God could reveal the future in such detail, often hundreds of years before the events occurred. Not only the future of cities, nations, and the world, but also concerning the future birth, ministry, death, and resurrection of Christ.

Attitude
Charles Swindoll

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.
It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.

It will make or break a company...a church...a home.
The remarkable thing is, we have a choice every day, regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.

    We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.

I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.
And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes.

Congratulations to Pastor Price and Betty on their 51st Wedding Anniversary.

There isn't a word that a preacher can say,
No matter how lovely or true,
Nor is there a prayer that his eager lips pray
That can preach such a sermon as you.

You vowed to serve Christ, and men know that you did.
They're watching the things that you do;
There isn't an action of yours that is hid,
Men are watching and studying you.

You say you're "no preacher"; yes, but you preach
A wonderful sermon each day;
The acts of your life are the things that you teach,
It isn't the things that you say.

Oh, Christians, remember, you bear His dear Name,
Your lives are for others to view,
You are living examples; men praise you or blame,
And measure all Christians by you.

September 11th

I think perhaps the most significant moment after 9/11, or during 9/11, was Flight 93. We had people on an airplane, flying across our country. They thought they were on a business trip, or traveling -- thought it was a normal day.

They were told on their cell phones that the enemy was using airplanes as a weapon. They realized that the hijacked plane they were on was going to be used to kill.

And they decided to serve something greater than themselves. In this case, they served their country. They said a prayer, they told their loved ones they loved them, and they drove a plane into the ground. It is a sign to me that the great courage and heart of America is alive and strong.

Did You Know?

Job is the oldest book written in the Bible – it was written by an unknown Israelite around 1500 BC.

Revelation, written about 95 AD, is the youngest book in the New Testament.

JESUS LOVES ME

Jesus loves me, this I know,
Though my hair is white as snow
Though my sight is growing dim,
Still He bids me trust in Him.
(CHORUS)
YES, JESUS LOVES ME.. YES, JESUS LOVES ME..
YES, JESUS LOVES ME, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.

Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I'll go
On through life, let come what may,
He'll be there to lead the way.
(CHORUS)

When the nights are dark and long,
In my heart He puts a song..
Telling me in words so clear,
"Have no fear, for I am near."
(CHORUS)

When my work on earth is done,
And life's victories have been won.
He will take me home above,
Then I'll understand His love.
(CHORUS)

I love Jesus, does He know?
Have I ever told Him so?
Jesus loves to hear me say,
That I love Him every day.
(CHORUS)

Back to School Safety Tips

Riding the Bus

School bus transportation is safe. In fact, buses are safer than cars! Even so, last year, approximately 26 students were killed and another 9,000 were injured in incidents involving school buses. More often than not, these deaths and injuries didn't occur in a crash, but as the pupils were entering and exiting the bus. Remember these safety tips:

  • Have a safe place to wait for your bus, away from traffic and the street.

  • Stay away from the bus until it comes to a complete stop and the driver signals you to enter.

  • When being dropped off, exit the bus and walk ten giant steps away from the bus. Keep a safe distance between you and the bus. Also, remember that the bus driver can see you best when you are back away from the bus.

  • Use the handrail to enter and exit the bus.

  • Stay away from the bus until the driver gives his/her signal that it's okay to approach.

  • Be aware of the street traffic around you. Drivers are required to follow certain rules of the road concerning school buses, however, not all do.
    Protect yourself and watch out!

Fight Procrastination Day
September 6th

Fight Procrastination Day is a day to get things done, a call to action.

To many people, procrastination is a way of life. The more difficult the action or decision, the easier it is to join the league of procrastinators. As a procrastinator, you are in very good company. You can even become a card carrying member of a Procrastinator's club.

Today is a day to fight procrastination. Make a decision. Take action. Do it now. Do it today. It may be hard to do. But, you will be glad you did.

Theme of the Day: " Never put off until tomorrow, what you can do today!" ... Mark Twain

Editors thoughts:

As I was finishing the editing on this website, I began to reflect about September 11th. I said to myself, "I will never forget that day!" Then I thought again and said, "I should do more than just remember this day."

Here are some suggestions:

1. Those you know who are in the military, call them, send them a letter or email letting them know how much you appreciate their service.

2. If you see any member of our armed forces, go up to them, tell them you support them and appreciate the sacrifices they are making and you are praying for them.

3. In many of our malls there are recruiting stations for the different branches, go in, acknowledge them and their commitment to protecting us and our country.

4. Wear something RED on Fridays. This is an outward sign of your support for our troops.

5. Fly the American flag, show your neighbors that you are proud to be an American.
